Human Affairs: Postdisciplinary Humanities & Social Sciences Quarterly (founded in 1990 as Human Affairs) is an international journal for the humanities and social sciences published by De Gruyter Brill and owned by the Institute for Research in Social Communication, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia.
The journal’s primary mission is to create a space for interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars conducting innovative theoretical, interpretative, critical, or historical research on issues related to human affairs. Specifically, the journal aims to foster collaboration across diverse social, cultural, and epistemological contexts.
In particular, we publish theoretical and empirical studies that combine conceptual or methodological approaches from multiple disciplines. The aim is to enable communication between sub-disciplines such as (but not limited to) social psychology and sociology, educational psychology, gender studies, anthropology, bioethics, philosophy of mind, and political science.
We also welcome studies addressing practical and applied dimensions of human interactions and human affairs more broadly.

Why Submit
Fast, fair, and constructive peer review. Upon submission, an editor’s first decision typically takes five days. The first round of peer review typically takes approximately six weeks. The mean time frame between submitting a manuscript and its publication is approximately six months.
Human Affairs is committed to maximising free access to scientific knowledge. Therefore, we provide free access to one Editor’s Choice paper in each issue, make the full content of the journal freely accessible after 24 months from publication, and offer authors an option to publish their articles in an Open Access licence (upon payment of an Article Processing Charge). Authors publishing in hybrid journals do not have to pay APCs if they do not wish to publish their article open access.

Human Affairs publishes special and thematic issues focused on important and emerging topics relevant to the humanities and social sciences. The journal maintains the same rigorous editorial and peer review standards for special issue submissions as for regular manuscripts.
